Retail trade up NOK 2.6 billion

Retail trade in Norway had a growth of NOK 2.6 billion from July to August (4th quarter) last year to July and August this year; an increase of 3.8 per cent.

By comparison, the Index of retail sales showed an increase of 3.3 per cent during the same period. In total, retail stores had a turnover of NOK 70 billion in the 4th quarter this year. Grocery stores alone had a turnover of NOK 24 billion in this period, which corresponds to 34.5 per cent of the total turnover. These stores had a growth of 4 per cent, or nearly NOK 1 billion, compared to the same period last year.

During the first eight months of 2011 the retail trade had a growth of NOK 8.6 billion; an increase of 3.4 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Trade and repair of motor vehicles

The total of sales and repair of motor vehicles was almost NOK 30 billion in July and August this year; a growth of 6.1 per cent from the same period last year. During the first eight months this year the total of sales and repair of motor vehicles was NOK 123 billion, which corresponds to 8.6 per cent growth compared to the same period last year.

Wholesale of NOK 130 billion

The wholesale stores had an increase of NOK 12.6 billion, or almost 11 per cent in July and August this year compared to the same period last year. The total turnover in wholesale was more than NOK 130 billion in July and August this year. During the first eight months of 2011 the total turnover in wholesale was more than NOK 530 billion; a growth of 9.5 per cent compared to the same period last year.

The figures do not include value added tax.
