Decrease in retail sales

The seasonally-adjusted volume index of retail sales decreased by 1.3 percent from January to February 2019. This follows an increase of 1.5 percent from December to January.

The long-term trend in the retail sales has increased by 3.4 percent between the turning point in May 2016 and the peak around the summer of 2018. After the summer of 2018 however, there has been a weak downward trend.

Working-day adjusted figures show that retail sales volume decreased by 0.5 percent in the period December 2018 – February 2019 compared to the same period one year earlier.
