Slight decrease in distance teaching

Independent distance teaching institutions reported a total of 3 148 000 tuition periods in 2005, a decrease of 6 per cent compared to the previous year. NKI Department of Distance Education accounted for more than half of all tuition periods during 2005.

In total, independent distance teaching institutions reported 20 200 course completions, 10 500 were women and 9 700 were men. 62 per cent of all participants were in the age group 30-49 years.

During 2005, transport and communication were the most popular subjects with 3 400 course completions. They were followed by 3 300 course completions within social science subjects and 3 200 course completions within business and ICT subjects. 94 per cent of all participants in transport and communication subjects were male.
