Norwegian lorries abroad transported a total of 875 400 tonnes of goods during the third quarter of 2002. This is a small increase since the same quarter the previous year. Cabotage and cross-trade constituted 14 700 tonnes or 1.7 per cent of the total amount of goods carried on Norwegian lorries.

The transport performance in the third quarter constituted 565.1 million tonne-kilometres. This is a decrease of 3.7 per cent since the same period the previous year, and the decrease was both in transports to and from Norway.

Increase in transport from Norway

In the third quarter of 2002, 427 500 tonnes of goods were transported on Norwegian lorries to foreign countries. This is 54 700 tonnes or 14.7 per cent more than in the same quarter the previous year. The amount of goods exported to Sweden has increased by 23.8 per cent since the third quarter of 2001, and in the third quarter of 2002 this amount was 285 900 tonnes. The total amount of goods transported to Sweden on Norwegian lorries during the first three quarters of 2002, was 829 300 tonnes. This is 15.8 per cent more than in the same period of 2001. In this period the share of the total amount of goods transported to or from Sweden in the first three quarters has gone up from 59.1 per cent to 63.2 per cent.

The amount of goods transported to Norway on Norwegian lorries in the third quarter constituted 433 200 tonnes, a decrease of 9.4 per cent or 45 100 tonnes since the same quarter the previous year.

Shorter journeys

Norwegian lorries drove a total of 36.4 million kilometres in connection with journeys abroad in the third quarter of 2002. This is 5.5 per cent or 2.1 million kilometres less than in the same quarter of 2001. The share of kilometres driven without cargo was 13.5 per cent compared with 12.8 per cent in the third quarter of 2001.
