Reduced market share for Norwegian lorries
In the 2nd quarter of 2016, 3.6 million tonnes of goods were transported across the border by lorries by road. This is almost 6 per cent more than in the 2nd quarter three years ago. Over the same period, the tonnage of goods transported on Norwegian lorries has fallen, and the market share has been reduced.

Small share of cargo transported by lorry
For all modes of transport as a whole, almost 63.0 million tonnes of goods were transported in and out of Norway in the 2nd quarter of 2016. This includes exports of oil and gas by ships and in pipelines. Lorries alone transported 4.0 million tonnes across the border. Of this, 3.6 million tonnes were transported by lorries across the national border by road. The remaining 0.4 million tonnes were transported to and from Norway by lorries or trailers on ferries.
Polish and Baltic lorries take market shares
The total amount of goods transported by lorries across the border by road increased by 3.3 per cent from the 2nd quarter of 2015 to the 2nd quarter of 2016. In the 2nd quarter of 2016, Polish and Baltic lorries transported 17.6 per cent of the goods passing the Norwegian border, compared to 15.3 per cent in the 2nd quarter of 2015. The Norwegian lorries' share of border transport decreased by 2.7 percentage points during the same period. Swedish lorries' share of border transport to and from Norway fell by 0.4 percentage points, from 28.9 to 28.5 per cent, compared to the 2nd quarter of 2015.

A large part of the timber exports that were incorrectly registered as lorry transport over a long period were moved to rail transport as from the 3rd quarter of 2014. New figures are updated dating back to the 1st quarter of 2013. There will therefore be a break in the statistics between the 4th quarter of 2012 and the 1st quarter of 2013. This is primarily important for comparability with the total number and market share of exports.
