Increase for Baltic and Polish lorries

In the first quarter of 2015, 3.2 million tonnes of goods were transported by lorry across the Norwegian border. This is an increase of 0.2 per cent compared with the first quarter of 2014. Baltic and Polish registered lorries had the largest relative increase of tonnage carried compared with the same quarter last year.

Baltic and Polish registered lorries transported 12.7 per cent more goods than in the first quarter of 2014. Polish lorries and lorries registered in the Baltic countries have a combined share of all transport of 15.7 per cent.

Norwegian lorries transported 1.1 million tonnes of goods in the first quarter, and performed 33.6 per cent of the border transport in the first quarter of the year; 3.5 percentage points less than the same quarter last year. The share for Swedish lorries was 29.7 per cent; a 1.8 per cent increase from the same quarter last year.

A large part of the timber exports that were incorrectly registered as lorry transport over a long period were moved to rail transport as from the 3rd quarter of 2014. New figures are updated dating back to the 1st quarter of 2013. There will therefore be a break in the statistics between the 4th quarter of 2012 and the 1st quarter of 2013. This is primarily important for comparability with the total number and market share of exports.
