Border transport recovers

During this year’s first quarter, lorries transported 2.8 million tonnes of goods across the border. This is 225 000 tonnes more than in the first quarter of 2009 but not as much as in the first quarter of 2008.

Compared with the first quarter of 2009, 8.7 per cent more goods were transported across the Norwegian border by road than in the first quarter this year. The largest increase was for Baltic lorries, transporting 41 per cent more than in the first quarter of 2009, while Norwegian lorries transported only 5.3 per cent more. The Norwegian lorries had 45.2 per cent of the border transport in this year’s first quarter, compared with 46.7 per cent in the corresponding period last year.

These figures cover goods transported by lorries passing the national border via road. Import and export by lorry on ferries are not included.
