Border transport continues to fall

A total of 2.6 million tonnes of goods were transported by lorry across the border into or out of Norway during the first quarter of 2009. This is 14 per cent less than in the corresponding quarter last year. The Norwegian lorries’ share remained steady.

Norwegian lorries carried 46.7 per cent of the goods that crossed the border during the first quarter of 2009, which is the same share as in the first quarter of 2008. The Swedish and Finnish lorries’ share of the border transport dropped, while Danish, Polish and Baltic lorries had a greater share of the goods transported to and from Norway than in the corresponding quarter last year. However, all countries had a fall in the total amount of goods transported.

These figures cover goods transported by lorries passing the national border on road. Imports and exports by lorry on ferries are not included.
