Majority of the traffic through Svinesund

In 2000 the total quantity of goods carried to and from Norway was 9.3 million tonnes, which is an increase of 5.3 per cent since 1999. Almost half of the total carriage of goods across the border in 2000 was through Svinesund.

There was 280 000 lorries crossing the national border at Svinesund in 2000. This is an increase of 3.7 per cent since 1999. Since 1990 the number of lorries carrying goods through Svinesund has risen by 47 per cent.

Norwegian vehicles lose market shares

Norwegian lorries carried 48.7 per cent of the goods across the border in 1990. In 2000 this share was 43.2 per cent, or 4 million tonnes of goods. Swedish lorries have increased their share of the goods transported over the last ten years, and they transported 38 per cent of the total quantity in 2000. The number of lorries carrying goods across the border has shown a similar development in market shares. In 1990 half of all lorries crossing the national border were Norwegian, and in 2000 this share had gone down to 44 per cent.

In 2000 the total carriage of goods out of Norway by lorry was 3.9 million tonnes. This is an increase of 28.6 per cent since 1990, but a decrease of 1.5 per cent since 1999. The quantity of goods carried from abroad to Norway was 5.4 million tons in 2000. This is 66.3 per cent more than in 1990, and 10.7 per cent more than in 1999.

Main figures for the fourth quarter of 2000

The total carriage of goods across the Norwegian border in the fourth quarter of 2000 was 2.4 million tonnes. This is an increase of 3.7 per cent since the fourth quarter of 1999. There was 147 804 lorries crossing the national border in the fourth quarter of 2000, an increase of 1.3 per cent since the same period in 1999.
