Now you have come to the page, Choose variable. This page give you the oportunity to select which variables and values you want to display in your result of the table. A variable is a property of a statistical unit. The page is divided into several boxes, one for each variable, where you can select values by click to highlight one or more values. It always starts with the statistics variable which is the main value counted in the table.

-Protected areas can be located in more than one municipality, and cover both land and sea areas.
-From 2004 GIS and digital overlay analysis is used to calculate the statistics. A higher accuracy is obtained.
-From 2013 : SSB changes to using the ETRS_1989_LAEA projection, for more precise area calculation
-'Other protections' include flora and fauna protection areas (biotop protections), and since 2006 nature relics with an area protection and biotops protected by the Wildlife Act are also included.
-The numbers do not include flora- or fauna protections without area protection.
-Areas on Svalbard are protected by law in the Svalbard Environmental Act. From 2009 are these areas included in the total numbers for protected areas.
-Some protected areas belong to several protection categories. 'All protection purposes'(new from 2018) states total protected area and is therefore smaller than the summation of the five protected area categories.
-Figures per 31st of December.
Protected area at sea for 2018, 2019 2020 og 2021 has been recalculated, as initially published figures were too high. New figures were published 28.02.2022.
