Torstein Bye was appointed Director of the Department of social statistics in 2017. From 2008 to 2016, he was Director of the Department of economics, energy and the environment, and from 1997 to 2008 was head of research at Statistics Norway. Torstein Bye is a graduate economist and has worked in Statistics Norway since 1979. He is a professor and lecturer at the School of Economics and Business at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, and has previously worked in the Ministry of Finance.
