Increase in sea fishing of salmon

This year the total catch of salmon and sea trout reached 631 tonnes, of which salmon amounted to 613 tonnes. Compared with 1999, catches have increased by 137 tonnes. Finnmark is the most important county, with a total catch of 236 tonnes of salmon. Except for Nordland and Troms it has been an increase in all counties.

40 per cent of the salmon was under 3 kilos, 44 per cent between 3-7 kilos and 16 per cent over 7 kilos. The average weight of salmon caught in 2000 was 3.3 kilo.
