Continued decline in moose hunting

A total of 30 800 moose were shot during the hunting year 2016/2017; a decrease of 300 animals from the previous hunting year and a decrease of 22 per cent from the record hunting year 1999/2000.

In total, a felling quota of 40 100 was issued, which is a decrease of 600 from the previous hunting year. The hunting success rate was 77 per cent.

Increase in Nord-Trøndelag

Since the mid-1950s, Hedmark has been the largest moose county in terms of number of animals shot. Since the hunting year 2010/2011, the number of moose shot in Hedmark has decreased from 8 000 to 5 000, and in the last hunting year Hedmark was surpassed by Nord-Trøndelag. A total of 6 000 hunting licences were issued and 5 300 animals were shot in Nord-Trøndelag, resulting in a hunting success rate of 89 per cent, compared to 70 per cent in Hedmark.

61 500 moose hunters

Among the cervid species, moose hunting is the most common. A total of 61 500 hunters participated in the moose hunt during the 2015/2016 hunting season.
