About Dag Kolsrud
My work combines economics, statistics and computer science, predominantly within the realm of macroeconomics. I am interested
in modelling, simulation and prediction, with an emphasis on uncertainty - from a philosophical as well as a methodological
point of view. Macroeconomic data are outcome of a large and complex dynamic system with interacting heterogenous agents.
Emerging properties of the system do not necessarily reflect properties of the agents. One may thus argue that empirical macroeconomics
should be primarily data based, and tentatively consistent with microeconomic theory. It follows that many interesting problems
in macroeconomics require model simulations (because an analytical approach is not feasible). Model simulations are suitable
for quantifying uncertainty in the results, conditional on the model and the dataset.
