Increased consumption of district heating

The consumption of district heating was 2 758 GWh in 2007, an increase of 10.5 per cent from 2006. The use of district heating has increased almost every year since 1983, when the consumption was 193 GWh.

The gross production of hot water and steam came to 3 535,5 GWh in 2007, of which 101.5 GWh was used in the production of electricity and 368.3 GWh was heat not distributed, resulting in a net production of district heating of 3 065.7 GWh.

Total investments in district heating in 2007 came to NOK 820 million. The price of district heating decreased from 55.1 øre/kWh in 2006 to 50.5 øre/kWh in 2007, exclusive of value added tax. Still, increased consumption resulted in a small increase in sales income of 1.8 per cent. In 2007, sales of district heating amounted to NOK 1 351 million.
