Record-high electricity price for households

The overall average price of electricity for households, including grid rent and taxes, amounted to 114.9 øre per kWh in 2018, according to new figures from the electricity price statistics. This is 19 per cent higher compared to 2017. The electricity price was 48.6 øre per kWh, and the grid rent and taxes came to 28.7 and 37.6 øre per kWh respectively.

Contracts with variable prices were most expensive

Households with variable price contracts had the most expensive contract type in 2018, with an average electricity price of 52.6 øre per kWh, excluding taxes and grid rent (see figure 2). For households with contracts tied to the spot price, which is the most common type of contract, the average electricity price was 47.6 øre per kWh. The category all other fixed-price contracts had the cheapest contract type in 2018 with an average electricity price of 31.9 øre/kWh. Few households have power through fixed-price contracts, and these contracts represent a very low proportion of total power consumption. 

High electricity price for service industries and manufacturing

For service industries, the price excluding grid rent and taxes increased by 46 per cent to 44.9 øre per kWh in 2018. For manufacturing excluding power-intensive manufacturing, the elspot price amounted to 43.9 øre per Kwh. This is 45 per cent higher than in 2017.

Much of the electricity sold to power-intensive manufacturing is sold through fixed-price contracts. The average price of electricity excluding taxes and grid rent was 31.6 per cent, a 7.1 per cent increase compared to 2017.
