Continued growth for construction

The structural statistics for construction show that the turnover for enterprises in the industry totalled NOK 521 billion in 2016. This corresponds to a growth of 8.0 per cent from 2015 and 14.3 per cent from 2014. It was the enterprises within the division "Construction of buildings" which contributed with the greatest increase. These enterprises increased their turnover by 9.8 per cent and accounted for 52 per cent of total turnover. The highest growth was in "Development of building projects".

5000 more persons employed

The number of persons employed in local kind-of-activity units with their activity in the construction industry increased by 2.2 per cent from 2015 to 2016. In total, 234,624 persons were employed in the industry. Of these, 34.2 per cent had their jobs in local kind-of-activity units with 0-9 employees.

Lower growth in number of local kind-of-activity units

The number of local kind-of-activity units in the construction industry has been steadily increasing over the last 5 years compared to the previous year. The largest growth was in 2012, an increase of 4.3 per cent from 2011. The next three years, the number of businesses has increased by between 2 and 3 per cent. The lowest growth was from 2015 to 2016 when the number of local kind-of-activity units increased by 1.3 per cent. The total number of enterprises in the construction industry was 58 488 in 2016, an increase of 760 from the previous year.
