If a person is imprisoned for more than one offence, the imprisonment is classified according to the principal offence. This is normally the offence that, according to the law, will give the most severe sentence. Statistics Norway groups the principal offences according to Classification of type of offence, version 2015, where all of the approximately 150 types of offences are grouped under one of the nine groups of offences.
